Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI)

The Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) is an international non-profit organisation looking to improve the integrity of the voluntary carbon markets (VCMs).

VCMI collaborates with stakeholders from civil society, the private sector, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, and governments to create frameworks that drive meaningful climate action while also supporting the achievement of the UN SDGs.

Two of their main initiatives are the VCMI Claims Code of Practice and VCM Access Strategy Toolkit.

The Claims Code of Practice, a demand-side initiative, is a rulebook on how companies can make use of voluntary carbon credits as part of credible, science-aligned net-zero decarbonisation pathways and make credible climate claims.

The Access Strategy Toolkit, a supply-side, provides guidance for countries to engage with the voluntary carbon market in support of national climate and economic prosperity.
