Abatable, a leading carbon procurement and intelligence platform, and Space Intelligence, a specialist in high-fidelity geospatial mapping and carbon stock data, are proud to announce a strategic partnership aimed at revolutionising how organisations manage nature-based assets and climate reporting.

Through this collaboration, Abatable and Space Intelligence aim to support corporates and investors with Scope 3 emissions reporting and the management and use of land-based Environmental Attribute Certificates (EACs) to mitigate these emissions. Scope 3 is often the largest component of a company's emissions footprint.

Elevating Scope 3 reporting and identifying land-based commodity EACs

Abatable brings deep expertise in value chain mitigation, leveraging its proprietary technology to map corporate supply sheds against a global database of over 13,000 carbon projects. As a founding member of the International Platform for Insetting (IPI), Abatable empowers companies to take action on their Scope 3 emissions through ‘insetting’ market-based instruments, enabling them to identify and source high-integrity commodity EACs and connect directly with implementation partners developing those projects in the specific commodity sourcing regions.

By integrating this with Space Intelligence’s Scope 3 Emissions Reporting Service, the partnership allows organisations to produce more reliable estimates of emissions related to land use change. Space Intelligence’s service utilises proprietary audit-grade crop and annual deforestation maps, as well as algorithms compliant with SBTi Forest, Land and Agriculture (FLAG) guidance and the GHG Protocol. It supports reporting for the highest tier ‘direct Land Use Change’ method and, critically, enables corporates facing traceability challenges to obtain the most value from the data they have, yielding high-confidence estimates.

This approach has been shown to reduce estimated Scope 3 emissions by over 60%* compared to default estimates by using higher-fidelity numbers derived from more accurate geospatial mapping data.

Navigating regulatory requirements: CSRD, EUDR, and TNFD

A core focus of this partnership is empowering Abatable’s clients to meet increasingly rigorous global sustainability reporting standards. By leveraging the geospatial tools developed by both Abatable and Space Intelligence, organisations can now access the high-fidelity data required for:

A broader partnership to advance the voluntary carbon market

The collaboration extends beyond Scope 3 reporting and land-based EACs to help existing Abatable users, including hundreds of nature-based developers and a network of institutional investors, to access a two-step ‘funnel’ approach to due diligence: starting with Abatable’s geospatial tools for broad supply shed mapping and pre-screening, and moving seamlessly to Space Intelligence’s technical investment-grade datasets and expert analysis to scale clients’ capacity and de-risk project investment.

*Based on an analysis in Côte d'Ivoire comparing Space Intelligence's Scope 3 Emissions Reporting Service with a default estimate using IPCC emissions factors and Global Forest Watch deforestation data.
